This product contains Birch
Birch logs are the most affordable hardwood in our range and are also very easy to light thanks to the quick-lighting birch bark. A great log to get started, they burn hot and smell good too. We also sell Oak, Ash & Beech kiln dried logs.
Delivered in Nets
Each small net is approximately 45cm x 25cm x 20cm, sold by volume, approximately 22 litres. Kiln dried firewood is sold by volume, not weight, because dry logs are considerably lighter than wet logs but their volume does not change in the kiln drying process. Nets are light to carry, easy to stack and are perfect for holiday home owners looking to ration log supply to tenants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Birch is one of the easiest hardwoods to ignite, making it an excellent choice for starting a fire in a wood burning stove or open fireplace. Its distinctive bark contains naturally occurring oils that ignite readily, while the wood itself catches fire relatively quickly when properly dried. Our kiln dried birch logs have a guaranteed moisture content below 18%, helping them light efficiently and produce strong flames without a prolonged warming-up period.
Yes. Our kiln dried birch logs retain their natural bark, including the distinctive white and silvery outer layers for which birch trees are famous. Some bark may peel or become detached during handling and delivery, which is perfectly normal. The bark is a natural part of the firewood and can help with ignition because it contains flammable natural oils. There is no need to remove the bark before burning.
Yes. Dry birch bark is well known for its ability to ignite easily because it contains naturally occurring oils. Small pieces of loose, dry birch bark can help establish a flame alongside suitable kindling. However, you should still follow your stove manufacturer's recommended lighting procedure and avoid overloading the firebox with loose bark. Our kiln dried birch logs can be burned with their bark attached.
Birch logs are particularly popular for their bright, lively and attractive flames. Compared with denser hardwoods such as oak, birch generally ignites more quickly and produces an energetic fire with plenty of visible flame. This makes it a wonderful choice for customers who enjoy watching a real fire, particularly in wood burning stoves with large glass windows and traditional open fireplaces.
Absolutely. Birch is particularly well suited to shorter fires when you want to enjoy some warmth without spending a long time establishing the flames. Because properly dried birch ignites relatively easily and burns energetically, it is ideal for lighting your stove on a chilly evening or enjoying a fire for a few hours. Its responsive burning characteristics make it a practical choice for occasional rather than continuous heating.
Generally, yes. Birch is less dense than oak, so an equivalent volume of birch will usually burn more quickly under similar conditions. This is not necessarily a disadvantage, as birch produces attractive flames and useful heat relatively quickly. If you prefer a lively fire that is easy to establish, birch is an excellent choice. For longer, slower-burning fires, you may prefer to combine birch with denser hardwoods such as oak.
Yes. Birch is an excellent heating hardwood that produces strong, useful heat when burned correctly. Although it is less dense than oak, its relatively quick ignition and lively burning characteristics make it particularly effective for bringing a cold stove up to operating temperature. Our birch logs are kiln dried to below 18% moisture, so less energy is wasted evaporating excess water and more is available for heating your home.
Freshly cut birch contains substantial moisture and is not suitable for efficient burning without proper drying. Burning wet wood wastes energy evaporating water, reduces combustion efficiency and can increase smoke and deposits inside your chimney or flue. Our kiln dried birch logs are guaranteed below 18% moisture and are Woodsure Ready to Burn certified, meaning they are ready to use without additional seasoning.
Properly kiln dried birch can burn cleanly and efficiently when used in a suitable appliance with sufficient airflow. Our birch logs are guaranteed to contain less than 18% moisture, helping to reduce the excess smoke associated with burning wet wood. However, all wood fires produce some smoke and combustion deposits, particularly if the fire is allowed to smoulder. Always operate your stove correctly, use adequate ventilation and arrange regular chimney sweeping.
Our Birch Net 22 Litres product is available in quantities of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 50 nets, allowing you to choose the amount of firewood that best suits your requirements. Larger quantity options offer better value per net, making birch an economical choice for regular wood burning stove users. Each net contains approximately 22 litres of premium kiln dried birch logs, neatly stacked and ready to burn.
