This product contains Oak
Oak is a premium hardwood with a very high density which means it will burn very hot for longer than other kinds of logs. Oak is a little more expensive than Birch, for example, but very energy dense so worth spending more. We also sell Birch, Ash & Beech kiln dried logs.
Delivered in Nets
Each small net is approximately 45cm x 25cm x 20cm, sold by volume, approximately 22 litres. Kiln dried firewood is sold by volume, not weight, because dry logs are considerably lighter than wet logs but their volume does not change in the kiln drying process. Nets are light to carry, easy to stack and are perfect for holiday home owners looking to ration log supply to tenants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Oak is one of the densest hardwoods commonly used for domestic firewood. Its high density means that, for a given volume, it contains more wood and therefore more potential heat energy than many lighter species. Our premium kiln dried oak logs are particularly popular with customers who want a slow, steady burn and sustained warmth from their wood burning stove or fireplace.
Yes, oak generally burns more slowly than birch because it is a denser hardwood. When comparing similar volumes of properly dried firewood, oak typically provides a longer-lasting fire and more sustained heat. Birch tends to ignite more readily and produces lively flames, whereas oak is an excellent choice for maintaining a well-established fire over a longer period.
Oak is denser than many other firewood species, so larger oak logs can take longer to ignite, particularly when starting from a cold stove. Our oak logs are kiln dried to a moisture content below 18%, which helps them burn efficiently. For the best results, establish a strong fire using suitable kindling and smaller pieces of wood before adding your oak logs.
Start by lighting a small fire using dry kindling and suitable firelighters, following your stove manufacturer's recommended lighting method. Allow the fire to establish a good flame and hot ember bed before adding oak logs. Oak performs particularly well once the stove has reached its normal operating temperature, providing steady heat and long-lasting embers. Maintain the correct air supply rather than allowing the logs to smoulder.
Our premium kiln dried oak logs are guaranteed to have a moisture content below 18%, comfortably within the 20% maximum required by the Woodsure Ready to Burn scheme. Oak is a particularly dense hardwood and can take a considerable time to season naturally, which makes proper kiln drying especially important. Our controlled drying process ensures the logs are ready to burn without requiring additional seasoning.
Oak generally contains more potential heat energy per litre than birch because it is denser. This makes oak an excellent choice when you want to maximise the amount of energy stored in a limited volume of firewood. However, the actual heat output and burning temperature also depend on your stove, airflow and how the fire is managed. Both species provide excellent heating performance when properly kiln dried.
Yes. One of the main advantages of burning oak is its ability to create a substantial bed of glowing embers that continues to release heat as the wood burns down. This makes oak particularly effective for maintaining an established fire without constantly adding new logs. The embers can also help newly added logs ignite more readily, provided there is sufficient airflow.
Our oak nets contain logs approximately 10 inches (25cm) long, a practical size for many domestic wood burning stoves and log burners. Before ordering, check the maximum recommended log length for your particular appliance, as smaller stoves may require shorter pieces. The logs should fit comfortably inside the firebox without touching the glass or obstructing the airflow.
Absolutely. Oak and birch complement each other particularly well. Birch is relatively easy to ignite and produces attractive, lively flames, making it useful for establishing a fire. Once the stove is hot, adding dense oak logs can help maintain a slower, steadier burn. Many customers choose a combination of oak and birch nets so they can enjoy the different burning characteristics of both hardwoods.
Our kiln dried oak logs are available in quantities of 10, 20 or 50 nets, with each net containing approximately 22 litres of premium hardwood firewood. Buying larger quantities reduces the price per net, making it an attractive option for customers who regularly use their wood burning stove. Each net contains neatly stacked oak logs, allowing you to manage your firewood supply conveniently throughout the heating season.
